Over the past year, the term “Quiet Quitting” has gained significant popularity. This phenomenon is generally characterized as a dissatisfied employee engaging in the bare minimum level of work while actively seeking alternative employment.  It should come as no surprise to learn this concept has also translated into personal relationships, aptly characterized as “silent divorce.”

Interestingly, “Counselling Directory,” a website aimed at helping individuals find support through a vast network reported a 544% increase to inquiries surrounding silent divorce between January and February 2023, as compared to the same time period a year earlier.  In many cases, the demise of a marriage is easy to pinpoint—whether by the discovery of deceit, physical/verbal altercation, partner declaring he/she/they want a divorce, etc.  On the other hand, the signs of silent divorce are typically subtle and may not be confronted if one or both of the partners possess an avoidant personality.

What began as a couple slowly drifting apart could transform into a dynamic whereby each partner is leading a separate life, despite residing within the same household. Although not all of these relationships are destined to fail, it is frequently a sign that actual divorce is on the horizon.

If you are concerned that your spouse may be planning to end the relationship or if you are seeking a divorce, contact the attorneys at Hagan, Weisberg, & Nunn, LLC for a consultation.
